Scioscia Nets Five Points as Lacrosse Falls to Franklin Pierce

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.– William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) totaled five points as the Setters came up short to the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University 12-10 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters finish the season at 5-9 overall and 2-9 in the NE-10, while the Ravens end their season at 5-8 and 4-7 in conference play.

The Setters got off to a strong start as Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) and Scioscia scored the first two goals of the game for a 2-0 Pace lead. The Ravens evened the score at two with 5:52 left in the opening quarter but Thomas Earl (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony's) (North Babylon, NY/ St. Anthony's) scored late to put Pace back ahead 3-2 after one quarter.

Franklin Pierce tied the game on the power play 20 seconds into the third quarter but the Setters answered as Scioscia netted his second of the day for a 4-3 Pace lead. The Ravens scored the next two goals to take a 5-4 lead late in the second quarter. The Setters pulled even at five with 1:33 on the clock as Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) (West Islip, NY/West Islip) scored off a Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) as the teams were tied at halftime.

The teams traded goals to start the third quarter as the Ravens held a 7-6 lead with 7:36 left in the quarter. Scioscia pulled the Setters even at seven less than a minute later as the Setters added two more goals by Cossidente on the power play and Gebhardt with 2:34 remaining in the third for a 9-7 Pace advantage. Franklin Pierce scored late in the quarter but the Setters led 9-8.

The Ravens rallied with two early goals in the fourth quarter to take a 10-9 lead with 9:14 on the clock. Marty Schnellenbach (Ridge, NY/Longwood) (Ridge, NY/Longwood) scored seven second later after winning the ensuing faceoff to even the score at 10-10. The Ravens tallied a pair of late scores to take the win.

For Pace, Scioscia totaled four goals and one assist, while Gebhardt tallied two goals and two assists. In net, Zak Pirro (Plano, TX/Plano) (Plano, Texas/Plano) started, going 36 minutes and totaling eight saves. Conor Brophy (Pompton Lakes, NJ/DePaul Catholic) came on for the final 23 minutes, posting five saves.
