WORCESTER, Mass.– Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) (Binghamton, NY//Broome CC) tallied 10 points as the Pace Lacrosse team fell to the Greyhounds of Assumption College 16-11 in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Setters fall to 5-7 on the season and 2-7 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds improve to 3-8 and 3-6 in conference play.
Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) (West Islip, NY/West Islip) got the Setters on the board first off a Mirabito assist at the 9:47 mark. Assumption tied the score at one but Mirabito put Pace back in the lead at 2-1. The Greyhounds tied the score at two and netted the next six goals to take a 7-2 lead early in the second quarter.
William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) broke up the run with a score off a Mirabito assist but the Greyhounds answered with two goals. The teams traded goals the rest of the way as Andrew Fritsch (Newark Valley, NY/Maine Endvell) (Newark Valley, NY/Maine Endvell) and Mirabito nets goals as the Setters trailed 11-5 at halftime.
Assumption scored the first goal of the third quarter but the Setters rallied with five unanswered goals to pull to within two at 12-10 midway through the third quarter. Gebhardt netted three goals in the run, while Mike Comperetto (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) also scored for Pace. Assumption tallied the next four goals to go up 16-10 midway through the final quarter. Scioscia added a late goal for the Setters.
For the Setters, Mirabito finished with a career day as he tallied two goals and eight assists, while Gebhardt tallied four goals and one assist. In net, Conor Brophy (Pompton Lakes, NJ/DePaul Catholic) recorded 12 saves in 60 minutes of action.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, April 20 when they will host the Hawks of Saint Anselm College for an NE-10 match-up at 1 pm at Pace Field.
