NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.- The Setters fell to the Warriors of Merrimack College 13-6 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 5-6 overall and 2-6 in the NE-10, while the Warriors improve to 8-1 overall and 7-0 in conference play.
The Warriors scored eight of the nine goals scored in the first half. Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) (West Islip, NY/West Islip) scored the lone Pace goal in the first half off a Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) assist.
The Setters rallied with a pair of early goals in the third quarter by Mike Comperetto (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata) to cut the score down to 8-3. Merrimack netted the next two goals but Matthew Cossidente (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) scored on the power play to pull to within 10-4. The Warriors added a goal at the buzzer to lead 11-4 after three quarters.
Each team scored two goals in the final quarter as Comperetto netted his second of the day, while Cossidente again registered a goal on the power play.
For the Setters, Mirabito finished with four assists on the day, while Comperetto and Cossidente each had a pair of goals. In net, Timothy Izzo (Trumbull, CT./St. Joseph/Franklin Pierce) recorded 14 saves in 60 minutes of play.
Pace is back in action on Wednesday, April 17 as the Setters travel to Worcester, MA for an NE-10 match-up against the Assumption College Greyhounds at 4 pm.
