Box Score 2 WRIGHT HITS WALK-OFF HOMERUN IN THE OPENER
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Kenny Wright (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) blasted a two-run walk-off homerun in the opener to life the Setters to a 6-5 win over Molloy. Pace would fall in the nightcap 3-1 against the Golden Lions. Pace now stands at 15-28-1 while Molloy holds a 30-18 record.
In the opener, the Setters and the Golden Lions traded runs for most of the game. Pace scored two unearned runs in the third inning but they were quickly matched by two from Molloy in the fourth. The Golden Lions then tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth. Wright would drive in a run with an RBI single in the sixth. Wright scored later in the innings with the tying run on an RBI single from Steve Sterlacci (Bohemia, NY/Connetquot) (Bohemia, NY/ Connetquot). The teams would go into extra innings knotted up at four. Wright went 2-for-4 with three RBI's in the game.
In extra frames, the Golden Lions scored a run in the top of the eighth but the Setters rallied in the bottom of the inning. Tyler Collins (Stamford, CT/Trinity Catholic) (Stamford, CT/ Trinity Catholic) led off the inning with a single to right. With two outs, Wright came up and played the role of hero as he crushed a ball over the right field fence, giving the Setters the walk-off victory. Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/ Pelham Memorial) got the win for Pace in relief to improve to 2-1 on the season.
In the second game, the Setters struggled to find a rhythm against Molloy's Justin Jorgensen, who limited Pace to five hits in the game. Mike Liguori (Rockville, NY/Chaminade) (Rockville Centre, NY/Melville) knocked in the only Pace run with a single in the second inning. Edward Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac) got the start for the Setters and gave up three runs in three innings of work as he fell to 1-1 on the season
Pace returns to action on Saturday, May 7 when the Setters will wrap up the season with a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader against Stonehill College. First pitch for game one is set for noon.
