Box Score 2 Garden City, NY - The Setters dropped a twin bill to the Panthers of Adelphi University, falling 8-5 in eight innings in the opener and lost 8-0 in the nightcap. Pace falls to 15-15 overall and 7-7 in the Northeast-10, while the Panthers improve to 15-17 and 9-5 in conference play.
In today's first game, Pace got off to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) (Corona, CA/Esperanza) was the first to reach base on a walk. She was later driven in on an RBI double by Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy) (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy). Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga) finished the inning by driving Bell in on an RBI single to take the lead 2-0.
Adelphi would battle back and push across one run in the bottom of the second, third, and fourth innings on seven hits and one error to take a 3-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning the Setters scored three runs on three hits and one error with the likes of a home run by Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) (Babylon, NY/West Babylon), and a Nicole Schultheis (Plainview, NY/Bethpage) double.
With the score at 5-3 in the bottom of the last inning, the Panthers were able to tie things up with two runs on two errors. Unfortunately for Pace, Adelphi would score three runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the eighth to end the game. The second contest of the twin bill was a game that got away from the Setters and continued to go downhill as they fell 8-0.
The Setters return to action on Friday, April 15th when Pace will travel to Syracuse, NY for a doubleheader against Le Moyne College at 3 pm.
