Box Score New Haven, CT - The Pace University women's basketball team lost tonight to Southern Connecticut State University by a score of 53-52 in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup. The Setters fall to 18-6 overall, and12-6 in conference play while the Owls improve to 10-13 overall, and 6-12 in the NE-10.
Pace got off to a bit of a slow start down by five points early. With back and forth action taking place till about the 12 minute mark the Setters closed within just one point, 10-9. However, in the next few minutes Southern Connecticut would quickly improve its lead to 11 points, 23-12. The Setters would not lay down for the Owls going on a six point run to narrow the Owl lead to seven points, 23-18. Back and forth action would continue as the Setters would simply not go away. Southern Connecticut State would unfortunately lead by three at the break, 28-25.
The second period would continue much like the first. Pace would remain within arm's reach of the lead however every time they'd get close the Owls would go on a small run. With 10 minutes remaining in regulation Southern Connecticut would lead by eight, 40-32. Things would get worse for Pace. With about four minutes to go the Owls led by as much as nine, 49-40. Pace would finally find their groove going on a 10 point run to capture the lead from Southern Connecticut for the first time in the game, 50-49. Unfortunately for Pace they could not hold onto that lead allowing the Owls to score the go ahead basket and one more. The Setters would lose by one, 53-52.
Shinning for the Setters despite the loss was Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) with 12 points, and eight rebounds. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) also posted 12 points.
The Setters return to action Saturday, February 12th when they matchup against Saint Rose in an NE-10 Conference showdown at 1:30 pm in Albany, NY.
