SETTERS USE EARLY RUNS TO CRUISE TO 11-2 VICTORY OVER DEACONS

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- Senior Chris Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) used a 3-for-5 game which included a home run, triple, and a single to lead the Setters to an 11-2 non-conference victory over the Bloomfield College Deacons. Spatkowski also drove in four runs, and scored a run over the Deacons. The Setters improve to 13-23 overall, while the Deacons fall to 8-31 overall.

The Setters started collecting runs early when Spatkowski led off Pace's day with a solo home run to right field. A one-out single later in the inning by Tyler Hart (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) brought home two runs to give Pace a 3-0 lead.

That lead would increase to 4-0 in the bottom half of the second when Spatkowski drove home a run on an infield single.

After Bloomfield drove in a run in the top of the third, the Setters fired back with another three-run rally in the bottom of the third to make the score 7-1.

Pace would bring the score to 10-1 in the bottom of the fourth with a third three-run rally.

A sacrifice fly ball from Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) would bring the score to 11-1 in the bottom of the seventh.

The Deacons would add on one more run in the top of the ninth, but the Setters made the lead too much for Bloomfield to overcome.

Steven D'Angelo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Union Catholic) (1-1) was given the win in a solid outing for the Setters going six innings allowing one unearned run on four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts.

The Setters will resume play tomorrow when they travel to Lowell, MA to face off against the UMass Lowell Riverhawks in a NE-10 doubleheader set to start at noon.
