Box Score 2 SETTERS DROP DOUBLEHEADER TO
QUEENS
FLEMINGTON, N.J.- Senior Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) (Cheshire,
CT/Cheshire) collected two hits and a pair of RBIs as the
Setters dropped a doubleheader to the Knights of Queens College.
The Knights took game one 19-6 and completed the sweep with a 4-1
win in the nightcap. The Setters fall to 0-6 on the season, while
the Knights improve to 5-3 overall.
In the opener, JJ Conrad (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill Valley) (Hamburg, NJ/Wallkill
Valley) led off the bottom of the first with a triple and
scored on a Torello single. The Knights would tie the score at one
in the second and added three more in the third in jump ahead 4-1.
Pace would rally with five runs in the second as Torello and
Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) each recorded run scoring singles.
Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore)
would tie the game at four with a sacrifice fly. Freshman
Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) (Warwick, NY/Warwick) put the
Setters back in the lead with an RBI single. Pace would tack on
another run to take a 6-4 lead after three innings.
Queens would answer with four runs in the and two more in the
sixth to take a 10-6 lead over the Setters. The Knights would pull
away, scoring nine runs in the final three innings as Pace pitchers
issued 10 walks in the opener. Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington)
(Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) started, going 2 2/3
innings, allowing four runs on six hits. Edward Byrne (Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepinac)
(Yonkers, NY/Archbishop Stepanic) (0-1) tossed one inning,
allowing three runs on one hit, while striking out two.
Steve D'Angelo (Scotch Plains, NJ/Union Catholic)
struck out five batters in 2 1/3 innings pitched, while
Kyle Henriksen (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) (Bay Shore, NY/Bay Shore) fanned
four in his two innings of action. For Queens, Joe Manfre (1-0)
tossed five scoreless innings, striking one and allowed one hit.
In the nightcap, Queens got on the board in the opening inning,
scoring all four runs, capitalizing on a Setter error. Pace starter
Mackenzie King (Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) would
settle down to toss 3 1/3 scoreless innings (4 1/3 total for the
game), while striking out six. King (0-2) allowed six hits with
three coming in the opening inning. Frank Luongo (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) (West
Harrison, NY/Harrison) tossed 2 2/3 scoreless innings,
allowing one hit, while striking out two.
The Setters scored their lone run of the game in the third
inning as Chris Roemer (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) (Ardsley, NY/Ardsley) led
off with a single and would go on to steal second. Roemer would
advance to third on a Conrad single and scored a on Chaputian
groundout. Pace got runners on base in the fourth and fifth innings
but would leave the bases loaded in both innings as the Setters
would leave nine total runners on base for the game.
The teams wrap up their three-game series on Sunday, March 7
with a single nine-inning game at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ.
