BENTLEY SWEEPS SETTERS IN
HOME FINALE
BRIARCLIFF, NY- Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy ) (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh
Free) went 4-for-6 with two RBIs in the doubleheader as
the Falcons took two games from the Setters, winning the opener 6-4
and 8-1 in the nightcap. The Setters fall to 21-22 overall and
15-11 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while the Falcons improve to
19-19 and 12-14 in conference play.
In the opener, Bentley struck in the opener inning on a solo
homerun by Alex Hitchcock. The Setters rallied in the third as
Nicole Schultheis (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) led off
on an error. Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) (Assonet,
MA/Apponequet) drew a two-out walk and both runners would
score on a Bell double.
The Falcons would tie the game at two on a Lindsay Ayers solo
homerun and a Jasmine Ortiz RBI single later in the inning put
Bentley up 3-2. Pace would rally in the fifth as Amanda
Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) reached on a one-out
single and advanced to second as the ball was misplayed by the
leftfielder. Dague would score on a Hurley run scoring game-tying
single but a big inning would be thwarted as the Setters bounced
into a double play.
Bentley would re-take the lead in the sixth, scoring three runs
to take a 6-3 lead. Pace would push a run across in the seventh on
a Pane RBI double but could not get any closer and fell 6-4. On the
mound, Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper)
(13-11) tossed a complete game, allowing six runs (five earned) on
eight hits, while fanning eight.
In the nightcap, Bentley scored two runs in the opening inning
and led the whole way, en-route to an 8-1 win in game two. Bell
went 3-for-3 in the game, while Pane had a pair of hits. Pace left
eight runners on base in the second game, scoring their lone run in
the sixth on a pinch hit single by Sarah Meleney (Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery)
(Rockville, MD/Richard Montgomery).
On the mound, Samantha Poulsen (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) (Bethpage,
NY/Plainedge) (0-3) tossed two innings, allowing two
unearned runs on two hits. Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (Norton,
MA/Norton) went four innings, allowing six runs on seven
hits, while Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel
Academy) retired all three batters she faced in the
seventh.
Pace is back in action on Monday, April 27 when the Setters will
travel to Syracuse, NY for a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader
against Le Moyne College at 3:00 pm.
