SHADA K'S SEASON-HIGH 10 IN
THE OPENER; SETTERS SPLIT WITH QUEENS
FLUSHING, NY- Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie,
WI/Tremper) struck out 10 batters in the opener, leading
the Setters to an 8-2 victory in the opener. Queens earned the
split, taking the nightcap 5-4. The Setters move their record to
8-9, while the Knights are now 15-7 overall.
In the opener, Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) (Assonet,
MA/Apponequet) ripped a two-run single in the third as
part of a Pace three-run inning to give the Setters a 3-0 lead. In
the fourth, Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug
Regional) singled with one out and scored as
Michelle Forgione (Islip, NY/Islip) (Islip, NY/Islip) blasted a
two-run homerun. The Setters broke the game open in the seventh, as
Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman)
and Hurley both reached base on singles. Trish Allutto
(Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) cleared the bases with a
three-run homer to put Pace ahead 8-2.
Hurley went 3-for-4 in the opener, while Allutto, Dubey and Pane
each collected two hits as the Setters pounded out 11 hits in game
one. On the mound, Shada (5-4) fanned a season-high 10 batters,
limiting the Knights to four hits and two runs.
In the nightcap, the Setters got off to a promising start as
Allutto and Tiffany Ott (Broad Channel, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Broad Channel, NY/Archbishop
Molloy) each had RBI singles to put Pace up 2-0 after one
inning of play. Queens would rally with a pair of runs in the third
to tie the game at two and take the lead in the following inning
with three runs.
The Setters cut into the Knights lead as Allutto hit a solo
homerun in the fifth. Pace would rally again in the seventh as Ott
had an RBI single but the Setters would leave a pair of runners on
base and fall short by one run 5-4.
For Pace, Ott went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Allutto had two
hits in four at-bats with a pair of RBIs. On the mound,
Samantha Poulsen (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) (Bethpage, NY/Plainedge) tossed
four-plus innings, allowing five runs on eight hits.
Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel
Academy) pitched two scoreless innings, fanning three.
Pace is back in action on Saturday, April 4 when the Setters
host UMass Lowell in a Northeast-10 Conference twin bill scheduled
for 12:00 pm on Pace's Briarcliff campus.
