SETTERS SWEEP ASSUMPTION
SHADA TOSSES FIVE-HIITER IN OPENER; HURLEY KNOCKS IN FIVE
IN TWIN BILL
WORCESTER, MA- Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie,
WI/Tremper) tossed a five-hit shutout, while
Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) knocked
in five runs as the Setters swept a Northeast-10 Conference
doubleheader, taking game one 3-0 and winning game two 7-4. The
Setters improve to 16-15 and 10-4 in the Northeast-10, while the
Greyhounds drop to 15-19 and 9-9 in conference play.
In the opener, Shada (9-7) threw a five-hit complete game
shutout, while striking out 10 batters leading the Setters to
victory. Hurley did all the damage for the Setters, blasting a solo
homerun in the fifth and drove in the other two runs with a seventh
inning single.
In the nightcap, Assumption would strike in the opening inning
with a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. The Setters would chip
away, scoring on in the third on a ground out by Hurley. The
Setters would explode for three runs in the fifth, taking advantage
of a pair of Greyhounds error to take a 4-2 lead.
Assumption responded in their half of the fifth with a
game-tying two-run homerun. The Setters would not be deterred as
pinch runner Tiffany Ott (Broad Channel, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Broad Channel, NY/Archbishop
Molloy) would put Pace up by one, scoring on a sixth
inning wild pitch. Pace would tack on a pair of insurance runs in
the seventh as the Setters Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford,
NY/Good Counsel Academy) and Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton)
(Norton, MA/Norton) kept the Greyhounds as bay to complete
the sweep.
Rescigno (3-3) tossed six innings, allowing four runs on 10
hits, while striking out one. Parlon picked up her first save of
the season, pitching a scoreless seventh inning.
Pace is back in action on Saturday, April 18 when the Setters
will travel to West Haven, CT for a Northeast-10 Conference
doubleheader against the University of New Haven at 12 pm.
