SOFTBALL POSTS 2-1 RECORD ON DAY TWO OF HAMPTON TOURNAMENT
HAMPTON, VA- The Pace softball team went 2-1 on the second day of the Hampton University Tournament. The Setters fell in the opener to Howard University 8-0, before finishing the day strong with a 2-0 win over Barton and a 5-3 victory over Coppin State. The Setters improve to 5-1 on the season.
In the win over Barton, Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) led of the first with a double, advancing to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball. In the second, Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) drew a one-out walk, advancing to third on a double by Michelle Forgione (Islip, NY/Islip) (Islip, NY/Islip). Amanda Dague (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) (Houston, TX/Klein Collins) would drive in the second Pace of the day with an RBI groundout. Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (2-0) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing four hits, while striking out six.
In the third game of the day against Coppin State, the Setters would use a two-out rally in the in pivotal second inning. Dubey would draw a one-out walk, eventually scoring on three passed balls for the first run of the game. Forgione would also draw a walk later, while Dague reached on an error by the third baseman. Pane would blast a three-run homerun to give the Setters a 4-0 after two innings of play.
Coppin State would rally with a solo homerun in the third and a two-run double in the fourth to slice the Setter lead to 4-3. In the Pace half of the fourth, Dague would add an insurance run for the Setters with an run-scoring base hit.
On the mound, Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) tossed three innings, allowing two runs on four hits, while striking out one. Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (Norton, MA/Norton) went three innings, allowing one run on one hit, while fanning four. Shada tossed a scoreless seventh inning, registering a pair of strikeouts.
The Setters return to action for the final day of the Hampton University Tournament with an 11 am game against the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore.
