Box Score PACE DROPS SERIES
FINALE TO BARRY UNIVERSITY 19-10
MIAMI SHORES, FL- The Pace University
baseball team fell in the final game of their four game series
against 16th ranked Barry University 19-10. The Setters
were outscored in the series 52-25.
The loss drops Pace to 4-8-1 for the season, while Barry
University improves their overall record to 20-2 for the year.
The Setters once again jumped out to an early lead as they were
able to score twice in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead.
Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led off
the game with a triple to deep right field. Chris
Spatkowski (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) then drove him in
on a RBI groundout to shortstop. The Setters were not done as
Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland) was hit
by a pitch, and Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester
Catholic) walked to put runners on first and second with
one out. Patrick Chaputian (Sea Cliff, NY/North Shore) (Sea Cliff, NY/North
Shore) then singled to right field to load the bases.
Mike Torello (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire) showed great
patience with the bases loaded, and drew a walk which earned him an
RBI on the play making it 2-0.
The Setters lead wouldn't last long as Pace's pitching couldn't
hold down the Barry offense which was a problem for most of the
series. Barry went on to score eight unanswered runs to take an 8-2
lead after two innings. Pace's starter Mike Mastrogiovanni
(Glen Rock, NJ/Glen Rock) struggled in his first start of
the season giving up eight runs, and seven walks in one and two
thirds innings.
Pace was trailing 13-3 going into the seventh inning when the
Setters got a shot of life with a Torello grand-slam to make the
score 13-7. It was the first grand slam of the season for Pace, and
the first homerun of Torello's career.
That would be the closest Pace would get as Barry would go on to
add six more runs in the next couple innings to put the Setters
away.
Torello finished the day with five RBI's, and a run scored.
Chaputian also had a great game for Pace with three hits, and one
run scored.
Pace will be back in action on Tuesday, March 15 as they will
stay down in Florida to take on Palm Beach Atlantic University. The
game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m.
