SETTERS SPLIT TWIN BILL WITH AMERICAN INT'L IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace baseball team ranked #3 in the latest NCAA Northeast Regional rankings, split Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with the Yellow Jackets of American International, taking the opener 9-4, but fell in the nightcap 6-4. The Setters end the regular season at 30-21 overall and 18-12 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets end their season at 11-30 and 9-21 in conference play.

The Setters rolled in the opener, scoring six times in the first two innings. Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) and Vinny Dammann (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) (Mullica Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) led off the first inning with singles. Jack Cawley (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) (Bronx, NY/Iona Prep) grounded into a fielder's choice and all the runners reached base safely to load up the bases. Matt Rigoli (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) (Parsippany, NJ/Parsippany) cleared the bases as he hit a double to the center field wall scoring all three runners. Rigoli would eventually come around to score on back-to-back singles by Chris Brown (West Kingston, RI/South Kingston) and Joe Cotone (Yorktown Hts., NY/Lakeland) (Yorktown Heights, NY/Lakeland).

Liscinsky would get the Setter offense going in the second leading off the inning with a single and stole second. Dammann would rip a double to right center to score Liscinsky. Pace would go on to add another in the inning. American International broke through in the fifth with one run but the Setters answered with three more in the bottom half as Damman had an RBI double and Brown drove in two more with a double.

On the mound, Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits, while striking out three to improve to 4-1. Michael Franza (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh, while Eric Brown (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk) pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning to secure the win for the Setters.

In the nightcap, Pace again got the board early, taking advantage of two Yellow Jackets errors in the first to score the first run of the game. In the second, the Setters would push across two runs without a hit. Cotone would get things going, reaching base on an error, moving to second on a wild pitch. Aaron Zrenda (Niantic, CT/Loomis Chaffee Prep) drew a walk and both runners advanced a base on a sac bunt. Cotone would score on a sac fly by Laurence Flammia (Massapeaqua Park, NY/St. Anthony's) (Massapeaqua, NY/St. Anthony's). Liscinsky and Damman would draw back-to-back walks to load the bases. Cawley stepped to the plate and drew a walk to score Zrenda for the Setters third run of the game.

The Yellow Jackets would rally for four runs in the third innings, capitalizing on a Setter error to key the rally. The Setter offense was limited to three runs in the game and fell in the game, splitting the twin bill on the day.

On the mounds, Tommy Parry (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) (Wayne, PA/Conestoga) tossed 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (0 earned) on four hits, while striking out one to drop to 1-1 on the season. Chris Camastro (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) (Lagrangeville, NY/Arlington) pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while recording two strikeouts. Mike Sciarretta (Stamford, CT/Stamford) and Zrenda each pitched a scoreless inning for the Setters.

The Setters have earned a berth in the upcoming Northeast-10 Tournament but their seed is to be determined. The Setters will play on Wednesday, May 7 in the opening round with the site and opponent to be determined.
