PANE SETS SINGLE SEASON HIT
RECORD AS PACE SWEEPS BENTLEY
FRISBIE'S WALKOFF HOMERUN ENDS FIRST GAME/SETTERS EXPLODE
IN GAME TWO
BRIARCLIFF, NY - Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point,
NY/Cardinal Spellman) broke the school single season
record for hits as her second hit in the fourth inning of game two
gave her 68 on the season and eclipsed the old record set by Tess
Bair with 67 in 2003. In the opener, a pitching dual ended in the
ninth inning as Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, CO/Conifer) (Indian Hills,
CO/Conifer) saw one pitch in the ninth and blasted it over
the fence in left field to give the Setters a 1-0 win, while the
Setters exploded for 11 runs in the fourth as they completed the
sweep with an 11-1 romp in the nightcap. The Setters end the
regular season with a 28-18 overall and 16-12 in the Northeast-10,
while Bentley drops to 20-20 and 13-11 in conference play.
In the opener, Bentley starter Kelsey Vella (Hampden, MA) and
Setter starter Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie,
WI/Tremper) battled it out in a classic pitcher's dual as
both hurlers worked out of several jams throughout the game. Vella
(9-5) allowed three hits on the day, while Shada (13-8) gave up
only four but the fateful blow came in the ninth as Vella's first
pitch of the inning to Frisbie was taken out of the park, giving
the Setters a 1-0 walk-off game one victory.
In the nightcap, the Falcons got on the board in the second,
pushing across their lone run of the day as Lindsay Ayers (Brielle,
NJ) led off with a single, moved to second on a sac bunt and
reached third on a groundout. Ayers would cross the plate on a
single by Christina Figueredo (Wilbraham, MA).
Bentley starter Ashley Messina (Hanover, MA) was stymied the
Setter offense over the first three innings, retiring all nine
batters she faced. The Setters would explode in the fourth as they
would send 15 batters to the plate, scoring 11 times on 12 hits.
Frisbie would have a pair run scoring singles good for three RBIs,
while Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan) had a
two run double.
On the mound, Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (Norton, MA/Norton)
tossed a five inning complete game, allowing one run on five hits,
while striking out two to improve to 6-3 on the season.
The Setters regular season is over but the Pace has qualified
for the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament, with their seeding and
opponent to be determined at the conclusion of the conference
regular season. The tournament will take place at Le Moyne College
from May 2-4.
