SOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH
STONEHILL
EASTON, MA - The Pace University softball team split a
Northeast-10 Conference twin bill with the Skyhawks of Stonehill
College on Sunday. The Setters took the opener 6-3, while the
Skyhawks earned the split taking game two 3-0. Pace moves to 9-7 on
the year and 1-3 in the NE-10, while Stonehill goes to 9-7 on the
season as well and 1-1 in conference play.
Pace struck first in the opener as junior Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman)
(Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) put
the Setters up 1-0 with her RBI single in the top of the third that
scored classmate Missy Dubey (Middlefield, CT/Coginchaug Regional) (Middlefield,
CT/Coginchaug Regional), who singled to lead off the
inning. Stonehill would answer with a run of their own in their
next at-bat as Stephanie Folan's RBI double brought home Kristen
Clark, who walked to open the bottom half of the third, tying the
game at 1-1.
Stonehill would later take their first lead of the game, 2-1, in
the bottom of the fifth on a leadoff homerun from Caitlin Flanagan.
The Skyhawks lead would not last long as the Setters would take
control of the game with a five-run sixth inning, to take a 6-2
lead. Junior Alton Frisbie's (Indian Hills, CO/Conifer) (Indian HIlls,
CO/Conifer) two-run double drove in freshman
Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) (Norton, MA/Norton) and sophomore
Kerri McLean (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy) (Woodhaven, NY/Archbishop Molloy).
Frisbie would come around to score on an RBI single from Dubey.
Sophomore Amanda Dague's (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) (Spring, TX/Klein
Collins) RBI single brought in senior Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman)
(Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman), while Pane's second RBI
single of the game brought home Dubey to cap off the five-run
inning.
The Skyhawks final run of the game came in the bottom of the
seventh inning on Ashley Langlois' RBI single that brought home
Kait Mendall.
Junior Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie,
WI/Tremper) (4-3) picked up the victory tossing the
complete game, allowing three runs on six hits, while walking one
and striking out five over seven innings. Danielle Mason (4-3) took
the loss going 5.2 innings, surrendering six runs on 10 hits,
walking two and striking out three.
Pane went 3-for-4 for the game with a pair of RBI's, while Dubey
went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with a pair of runs scored and
an RBI.
Stonehill scored the first run of the game in the nightcap
taking advantage of a pair of Pace errors to take an early 1-0
lead. The score would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth
inning as the Skyhawks pushed two more runs across the plate to
take a 3-0 lead on back-to-back homeruns by Courtney Young and
Jaime Ippolito.
That's all the run support starter Katie Mottau (4-3) would need
as she went 5.1 scoreless innings allowing just a pair of hits and
a walk, while fanning one. Ippolito closed out the final 1.2
perfect innings to pick up her third save of the season and
complete the two-hit shutout.
Freshman Christina Rescigno (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel Academy) (Elmsford, NY/Good Counsel
Academy) (2-1) took the loss going all six innings,
allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits, while walking one
and striking out one.
Pace returns to action this Wednesday, April 2nd, as
the Setters will travel to New Haven, CT to take on NE-10
Conference foe Southern Connecticut State University. First pitch
is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
