LOWELL, MA- The Pace baseball was eliminated from the
Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Saturday night as the Setters
lost their second game of the weekend to Franklin Pierce, 5-1. The
Setters drop to 30-26 overall on the season and will await a
possible at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Selection
Show is Sunday night at 8:00 pm and will be broadcast on
ncaasports.com.
The Ravens got all the runs they would need in the second,
capitalizing on two Setter errors to score three times with two of
the runs being unearned. Franklin Pierce used the long ball in the
fifth as Kevin Renaud hit a two-run home run.
The Setter offense was limited to three hits on the evening as
Raven starter Arric Mather tossed a complete game, striking out
six.
Pace scored their lone run in the ninth as Andre Liscinsky (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) led
off, reaching base on an error and scored on a triple by Matt
Arburr. Neil Ross (Cortland Manor, NY/Dominican College) had singles in the second and seventh innings to
account for the Setters other hits in the game.
On the hill for Pace, Justin Kanellis (Lansing, NY/Lansing Central) got the start, going four
innings, allowing six hits and five runs (three earned) and struck
out four. Nicholas DeMeo (Farmingville, NY/Sachem East) and Michael Sheehy (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) came on in relief
tossing a combined four innings of shutout ball. DeMeo pitched an 1
2/3 innings giving up one hit and fanned two, whiel Sheehy hurled 2
1/3 innings, allowing three hits and struck out one.
