BRIARCLIFF, NY - The Pace University softball team took a Northeast-10 Conference softball doubleheader from the Yellow Jackets of American International College, by scores of 4-0 and 3-2. With the wins, the Setters snap a 12-game losing streak, improving their overall record to 9-15 on the season and 2-8 in the NE-10, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 9-17 overall and 3-5 in conference play.

Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (5-7) tossed a gem for Pace in the opener as she pitched her 11th complete game of the season and second shutout of the year, allowing just four hits, while walking three and striking out nine.

The Setters did all of their damage in the bottom of the fourth. Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) led off the inning with a double down the left field line and would come around to score on Trish Allutto's (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional) RBI single up the middle. Pace would add three additional runs, all unearned; taking advantage of a pair of AIC fielding errors that extended the inning. Freshman Hyra Kameraj (New York, NY/Notre Dame) (New York, NY/Notre Dame) took advantage of one of the errors, which allowed her to score the second run of the game. Christina Pane's (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) groundball to second allowed Alton Frisbie (Indian HIlls, CO/Conifer) (Indian Hill, CO/Conifer) to score, while D.J. Ketchel's (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) RBI single to left brought home Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac).

Taking the loss for the visiting Yellow Jackets was Sara Swepston (Dallas, PA/Dallas) (5-6), who allowed four runs (one earned) on six hits, while walking one and striking out a pair.

AIC would take the early lead in game two, scoring a run in the opening inning. Michelle Franey (Abington, MA/Abington) led off with a single to left and would come around to score on Teresa Bonavita's (Agawam, MA/Agawam) RBI double to the gap in left center. The Yellow Jackets added their second run on the game in the top of the fifth as Franey's RBI single to left brought home Jen Gonyea (Springfield, MA/Central), who came in to pinch run for Tara Gonrec (Southwick, MA/Southwick), who doubled to lead off the inning.

Pace tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Hunt that scored Kinyon and Ketchel. The Setters two-run rally to tie the game set up Patricia Hurley's (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) game-winning RBI single to center in the bottom of the seventh that scored Pane.

Shada (6-7) picked up the win in relief, getting a crucial out as she enticed Katelyn Ellie to fly out to right field, ending the inning. Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) started the game for Pace, going 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits, while walking four and striking out two

Sara Puglisi (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) (3-7) took the loss for AIC as she surrendered the winning run. Puglisi pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief, allowing two hits, one walk and striking out one. Ashley Deegan (Madison, CT/Coginchaug) started the game, tossing 5 1/3 innings allowing two runs on nine hits, while walking none and striking out four.

Pace returns to action on tomorrow, Thursday, April 12th, as the Setters host the Panthers of Adelphi University in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Pace Field on the Briarcliff campus of Pace University.
