SOFTBALL SWEEPS BOWIE
STATE
BOWIE, MD - The Pace University softball team swept
the Bulldogs of Bowie State University in a non-conference
doubleheader by scores of 5-3 and 3-2. The Setters improve to 7-3
on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 7-5 overall.
Pace opened the game scoring a run in the first inning as
Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan Regional)
doubled to right field scoring Carolyn Krause (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) (Staten
Island, NY/Tottenville), who reached base on an error by
the shortstop to leadoff the game. The Setters would add a run in
the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Patricia
Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) went 3-for-4 with an RBI
and a run scored. Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) (Pleasant Prairie,
WI/Tremper) also added an RBI and a run scored.
Shada (4-1) was solid on the mound once again as she allowed
three runs (two earned) on three hits, while striking out one in
seven innings of work.
Bowie State scored all of their runs in the seventh as Erin
Gray, Ashley Cook and Virginia Hockey all drove in a run. Jillian
Willey (2-3) received the loss, giving up four runs (two earned) on
seven hits, while walking four and striking out two in six innings.
Tiffany Toney tossed an inning of relief, allowing one run, one
walk and three hits.
Game two featured more of a pitcher's duel as the game was
scoreless through the first four innings. Pace would be the first
team to score as the Setters scored two in the fifth. Julia
Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) was the first to cross the
plate, scoring from third on a failed attempt to catch Krause from
stealing second. Krause would later score on an RBI single by
Allutto. Pace would add the would-be winning run in the sixth.
Kim Troiano (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) (2-0)
tossed five strong innings, allowing two runs on three hits, while
walking two and striking out four. Kelly Kinyon (Levittown, PA/Harry S. Truman) (Levittown,
PA/Harry S. Truman) provided two innings of relief
allowing only three hits.
The Bulldogs scored two runs in the sixth as Toney and Gray
drove in runs. Heather Enders (4-2) took the loss, allowing two
runs on six hits, while walking one and striking out five. Toney
pitched two innings of relief, giving up one hit, one run and two
walks, while striking out two.
Pace concludes its spring break trip, which saw the Setters
travel through North Carolina, Virginia and Maryland, posting a 7-3
record.
The Setters will be back in action on Thursday, March
29th, for their 2007 home opener, hosting the Golden
Knights of Dowling College in a non-conference doubleheader. First
