Box Score WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DROPS TO DOMINICAN IN
HOLIDAY CLASSIC OPENER
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace women's basketball team dropped
lost the opener of the Pace Holiday Classic 65-58 to the Chargers
of Dominican College at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters
fall to 2-8 overall, while the Chargers improve to 7-2 on the
season.
Dominican controlled most of the opening half, taking a 13-9
lead seven minutes into the game. The Chargers would eventually
extend their advantage using a 17-5 run to taking their biggest
lead of the half at 35-16 with 2:47 left in the opening period. The
Setters would close out the half with a 5-0 run backed by a free
throw by Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island, NY/St. John
Villa), a pair of from the line from Stephanie
Rossmy (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) and a Klingele
lay-up at the buzzer to trail Dominican at the half 35-21. Pace
struggled with their shooting in the half, posting a 23.5%
(8-for-34), while the Chargers shot 12-for-27 (44.4%) from the
field.
The Chargers maintained a double-digit lead well into the half
despite the Setters shooting 54.2% from the field in the final
period, while Dominican was held to 36.7% shooting. Klingele's
trifecta with 5:29 left in the game made it a 10-point game but
Dominican pushed their lead back to 15. Pace got a close as seven
points in the half with under 10 seconds remaining in the game but
would not get any closer as Dominican pulled out the win 65-58.
For Pace, Klingele led the way, totaling a game-high 20 points,
shooting 6-for-14 from the field and 3-for-5 from long range, while
chipping in six rebounds. Rossmy recorded a double-double with 16
points and 11 rebounds, backed by 6-for-12 shooting from the field.
For Dominican, Adele Laskowski scored a team-high 15 points,
while adding four boards and four assists. Shalissa Burgess posted
a double-double totaling 13 points and 12 rebounds. Althea Chambers
rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Chargers, tallying 10
points, while grabbing nine rebounds.
Pace wraps up its Holiday Classic as the Setters will host
Franklin Pierce University on Saturday, December 29 in a
non-conference game scheduled for a 2 pm tip-off.
