Box Score WOMEN'S BASKETBALL FALLS TO #10 SOUTHERN
CONNECTICUT
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Pace women's basketball team dropped a
Northeast-10 Conference game to the #10 ranked Owls of Southern
Connecticut 73-61 at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Setters fall
to 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the NE-10, while the Owls improve to 9-2
and 6-2 in conference play on the season.
Neither team had an advantage early in the game as both teams
struggled with their shooting throughout most of the opening
period. The Setters built the largest lead of the half as they held
a 28-23 advantage with just under three minutes to go in the half.
The Owls would tie the score at 28 on back-to-back possessions.
Taylor Losey's (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern) (Bristol, CT/Bristol Eastern)
three-pointer would put the Setters back up by three with just over
a minute left in the half. Southern would take a one-point lead on
layups by Kate Lynch and Rochelle Johnson and take a 32-31 lead
into the break. The half featured five lead changes and three ties.
Pace shot 11-for-31 (35.5%), while the Owls were only slightly
better at 13-for-34 (38.2%) shooting.
Southern Connecticut opened up the second half with a 15-4 run,
taking a 47-35 lead five minutes into the final period. Lynch hit a
trifecta and a pair of jumpers, while Michelle Martinik hit a pair
of three-pointers to key the run. The Owls extended their lead to
as much as 17 and would maintain a double-digit lead until the
Setters sliced the lead to seven with under a minute to go in the
game. Southern Connecticut would push the lead back to double
figures as they hit 6-for-6 from the free throw line the rest of
the way and post the 12-point win.
For Pace, Stephanie Klingele (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) (Staten Island, NY/St. John
Villa) led the way, totaling 15 points and five rebounds.
Losey finished with 14 points and four rebounds on 6-for-13
shooting, while Christine Fitzgerald (San Diego, CA/Mt. Miguel) (San Diego, CA/Mt.
Miguel) posted a double-double with 10 points and 14
assists. Kristin Connolly (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) (Staten Island, NY/St.
Peter's) tallied a team-high seven rebounds to go along
with her six points.
For Southern Connecticut, Lynch scored a game-high 19 points and
grabbed eight rebounds. Martinik recorded 16 points and four
assists, while shooting 4-for-7 from the field and hit 3-for-5 from
long range. Johnson totaled 12 points and eight caroms, while
Kaylie Schiavetta tallied 11 points.
Pace returns to action when they host the 2007 Pace University
Holiday Classic as they will open their tournament against
Dominican College on Friday, December 28 at 2 pm at the Goldstein
Fitness Center. The Setters will close out the classic the
following day when they will host Franklin Pierce University for a
2 pm tip-off.
