Seventh Ranked Bryant Softball Sweeps Pace 10-1,

Smithfield, RI - The seventh ranked Bryant University softball
team took two games from Pace University on Thursday winning Game
One, 10-1 in six innings, and picking up a win in Game Two by the
score of 8-0 in five innings. Bryant improves to 17-13 overall and
15-3 in the Northeast-10.
In Game One, the game was scoreless until the bottom of the
third when Jen Serrano (Stoneham, MA) had an RBI triple knocking in
Stephanie Mirando (North Haven, CT) who reached base in front of
Jen with a double. Pace would tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the
fourth on an RBI single by Julia Hunt (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) (Mahopac, NY). Pace had four
singles in the inning but only managed to score the single run.
The Bulldogs would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth on
an unearned run. Then the fireworks went off in the bottom of the
sixth for Bryant. They scored a total of eight runs before the game
was called to win 10-1. Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, MA) led off the
inning with a solo homerun deep to leftfield. Vicci Duane (West
Haven, CT) had a bases clearing double that led to three more runs.
Then the game winning hit was by Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, MA) who
connected on a three-run homerun over the leftfield wall. Jen
Bernier (Rehoboth, MA) threw six innings allowing just one run and
struck out three for Bryant.
Game Two saw the hot Bryant bats continue to hit the ball. In
the bottom of the first Amanda Wilbur (Lakeville, MA) connected for
her second homerun of the day with a two-run shot to give the
Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. In the home half of the third Bryant struck
for three more runs on an RBI single by Jen Serrano (Stoneham, MA)
and a two-run double by Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, MA). Gagne
finished the day going 4-6 with five RBI's and three runs scored.
The Bulldogs would get three more runs in the bottom of the
fourth and hold defensively in the top half of the fifth for the
8-0 victory. Wilbur and Mirando each had an RBI double in the
inning. Wilbur finished the day with two homeruns going 4-6 with
four RBI's and two runs scored.
On the mound Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) did not allow a run
and struck out eight batters in five innings of work, earning her
seventh victory of the season.
