Lew Janavey

Janavey, who enters his fifth season in 2024, has over 25 years of successful lacrosse coaching experience. He comes to Pace University from Mercy College, where he served as an assistant men’s lacrosse coach for three seasons.

Prior to Mercy, he served two seasons as the men’s lacrosse associate head coach at Dominican College. Before that, Janavey spent six years as the Boys Varsity Lacrosse Head Coach at perennial powerhouse, Somers High School (N.Y.). During his tenure at Somers, he guided the Tuskers to three Sectional Finals, including The Section 1 Championship in 2009.

Prior to Somers, Janavey spent two years helping to start the Varsity program at Edgemont High School (N.Y.). For the 16 years before that at Lakeland-Panas High School, he served as an Assistant Varsity Coach, Defensive Coordinator & Goalie Coach. During his time there, the Rebels won an astounding six Section 1 Championships.

Janavey has coached over 18 High School All-Americans and countless All-Section players during his career. He has served on various selection committees for prestigious All-Star Teams and Recruiting Showcases.

Janavey was the 2000 Head Coach of the New York team, in the “New York vs Maryland Challenge.” From 2004 through 2014, he was the Director of the WestRock Lacrosse Club. Additionally, he has seven stints as a coach for the Hudson Valley Empire Team.  In 2012, he was the Silver Medal winning Head Coach in the first year of the Empire State Cup.

Lew lives in Jefferson Valley, New York with his wife Laurie and two sons JoJo and Dominic.
