PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Field Hockey opened its home slate Wednesday afternoon against No. 3 East Stroudsburg University, falling 3-0 at Peter X. Finnerty Field. The setback moved the Setters to 3-2 early on in the season.
East Stroudsburg put Pace under pressure early, but Tara Dusée made a pair of saves within the opening five minutes before the visitors broke through at 4:57. The Setters generated their best opportunity of the first quarter when Grace Francis put a shot on cage at 9:45, but Pace entered the second trailing 1-0.
The Blue and Gold created more chances in the second period and earned a pair of penalty corners. Feline Rook had an attempt blocked off the first corner before Francis tested the goalkeeper again at 20:15. Carlotta Oschmann later sent an attempt wide as the Setters kept East Stroudsburg off the board throughout the quarter to remain within one at halftime.
East Stroudsburg regained control after the break, generating 10 shots in the third quarter. Dusée made four saves during the period before the visitors doubled their advantage at 38:30. The Warriors added their final goal with 1:32 remaining in the fourth.
Dusée turned in a busy afternoon in cage, finishing with a season-high 14 saves across 60 minutes. Francis accounted for both of Pace's shots on goal, while Rook, Josefina Villa Alonso and Oschmann also generated attempts. The Setters finished with six shots and four penalty corners, while East Stroudsburg recorded 27 shots and 12 corners.
The Setters return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, when they host Molloy University at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
