ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Grace Francis scored twice while Pace University Field Hockey controlled the attacking end throughout Saturday's 4-1 victory over Roberts Wesleyan University. The Setters improved to 3-1 on the season behind 25 shots and 15 penalty corners.
Pace needed just 2:12 to open the scoring. Stella Musso set up Feline Rook for the game's first goal, giving the Setters an early advantage before the offense continued to pressure the Roberts Wesleyan cage with six first-quarter shots.
The Setters doubled their advantage just over a minute into the second quarter when Carlotta Oschmann connected with Olivia Martinez for a goal at 16:05. Roberts Wesleyan cut the lead to 2-1 in the 27th minute, but Pace quickly responded.
Francis restored the two-goal cushion with 55 seconds remaining in the first half, sending the Setters into the break ahead 3-1.
After a scoreless third quarter, Pace turned up the pressure again in the fourth, generating 10 shots and five penalty corners while holding Roberts Wesleyan without a shot. Francis capped the afternoon at 52:24, converting a penalty stroke for her second goal of the game and the final 4-1 margin.
Francis finished with two goals on nine shots, putting all nine attempts on target. Rook and Martinez each added a goal, while Musso and Oschmann recorded assists.
Tara Dusée made three saves as the Setters limited Roberts Wesleyan to seven total shots and four on goal. Pace held a 25-7 advantage in shots, a 23-4 edge in shots on goal and a 15-6 advantage in penalty corners.
The Setters return home for the first time this season on Wednesday, Sept. 16, to host East Stroudsburg University at Peter X. Finnerty Field at 4:00 p.m.
