PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Pace University Volleyball saw its unbeaten start to the 2026 season come to an end Tuesday night, falling to Mercy University in straight sets inside the Goldstein Fitness Center. The Mavericks earned the victory by scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-10, moving the Setters to 2-1 on the year.
After dropping the opening frame, the Blue and Gold found a better rhythm in the second. Pace put down 10 kills with only four attacking errors to hit .162, its best offensive mark of the match, but Mercy held off the Setters for a 25-18 decision. The Mavericks carried that momentum into the third to close out the match.
Freshman Kendall Quinones provided a bright spot off the bench, leading the Setters with five kills on 12 attempts while hitting .250. Ileann Alessandra Perez and Paola Ortiz followed with four kills apiece, while freshman Maggie Hamed contributed three kills and hit .222.
Aralyn Saulys directed the offense with nine assists and added seven digs while delivering three of the Setters' five service aces. Ortiz anchored the back row with a team-high 11 digs, and Jennah Figueroa added seven.
Despite the setback, Pace remains above .500 after opening the campaign with consecutive sweeps of Dominican University of New York and Lackawanna College.
The Setters hit the road Saturday, Sept. 5, traveling to Bridgeport, CT, for a 1:00 p.m. matchup against the University of Bridgeport.
