NORTHBOROUGH, MA. – Following a standout postseason performance that helped send Pace University Women's Lacrosse back to the national semifinals, sophomore midfielder Marissa Doty was named the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II Offensive Player of the Week.
Doty earned the national honor after leading the Setters past Adelphi University, 16-12, in the NCAA Division II Championship Quarterfinals. The win pushed Pace into the national semifinals for the second time in program history and continued the Blue and Gold's pursuit of a second national championship.
The Syracuse, N.Y. native delivered one of the top performances of her career against the Panthers, totaling nine points on five goals and four assists. Doty also added two ground balls, four caused turnovers, and a free-position goal, making an impact in nearly every phase of the game as Pace secured the road victory.
Doty has been one of the top two-way midfielders in Division II throughout the season. She enters championship weekend leading Pace with 49 goals, 67 points, 48 ground balls, 41 caused turnovers, and 51 draw controls while helping the Setters produce one of the most balanced attacks in the country.
The weekly honor adds to an already decorated postseason for Doty. Earlier this spring, she was named the Northeast 10 Conference Midfielder of the Year and earned First Team All-NE10 honors. She also collected First Team IWLCA All-East Region recognition and USA Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America honors.
Pace now turns its attention to the NCAA Division II Championship Semifinals in Rochester, N.Y., where the Setters will face Florida Southern College on Thursday, May 21, at 4:30 p.m. at Judson Stadium.
