Women’s Lacrosse Opens Fast, Cruises Past Assumption

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday night, Pace University Women's Lacrosse overwhelmed Assumption University from the opening whistle, using a dominant first half to secure a 19-2 victory at Northwell Stadium. The Setters controlled every phase early and never slowed down, improving to 9-4 overall and 6-1 in the Northeast 10 Conference (NE10).

Assumption struck first just over 20 seconds into the contest, but the Blue and Gold responded immediately. Mackenzie Carita ignited the offense, and Pace rattled off eight unanswered goals to close the first quarter with an 8-1 lead.

The Setters continued to press in the second quarter, piling on six more goals to extend the advantage to 14-1 at halftime. Carita added multiple scores during the stretch, while Maddie Schubert and Lisa Heffernan contributed to the surge.

Pace carried that momentum into the third quarter, pushing the lead to 17-1 behind goals from Marissa Doty, Abigail O'Connor, and Lia Villari. The Blue and Gold controlled possession throughout, limiting Assumption to just five total shots in the game.

The Setters added two more goals in the fourth quarter, with Villari and O'Connor each finding the back of the net to cap the scoring at 19-2. Assumption added a late goal in the closing seconds, but Pace maintained full control to the final whistle.

Carita led the offensive effort with six goals and an assist, while Schubert added three goals, and Heffernan finished with two goals and an assist. Annie Sheehan dished out four assists to pace the offense, as the Setters totaled 42 shots and 27 on goal in the victory.

Camryn Smith anchored the defensive effort, allowing just two goals while making a save in a complete-game performance. The Setters dominated possession with 16 draw controls and 25 ground balls, keeping Assumption on its heels throughout.

The Setters hit the road on Saturday for a NE10 match-up against Saint Michael's College, with the opening draw scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
