Women’s Lacrosse Dominates Bentley Behind Seven Goal First Quarter

WALTHAM, Mass. – Pace University Women's Lacrosse used a dominant opening quarter to power past Bentley University on Saturday afternoon, earning a 14-4 road victory in Northeast 10 Conference (NE10) play. The Setters scored the game's first seven goals and never looked back, improving to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in NE10 play. With the win, the Blue and Gold closed the regular season on a high note before turning their attention to the Northeast 10 Conference Championships.

Pace wasted no time taking control, as Mackenzie Carita opened the scoring less than three minutes into the contest. Annie Sheehan followed with a goal just 43 seconds later before Maddie Schubert added another to make it 3-0 midway through the opening quarter.

The Setters continued to pour it on from there. Marissa Doty scored twice in the opening frame, including a man-up goal, while Schubert added two more goals before the end of the quarter to complete her hat trick and give Pace a commanding 7-0 lead after 15 minutes.

Bentley got on the board early in the second quarter, but Pace answered with a man-up goal from Jamie Petrullo to carry an 8-1 advantage into halftime.

The Falcons scored twice in the third quarter to trim the deficit to 8-3, but the Setters immediately responded. Carita scored off an assist from Doty before Lisa Heffernan and Mary Kate Nawrocki each added goals in the final three minutes of the quarter to push the lead to 11-3 entering the fourth.

Pace continued to control play in the final period. Lia Villari scored twice in the quarter, Madison Wade added a goal, and the Setters held Bentley to just one shot in the final 15 minutes.

Schubert finished with three goals and one assist, while Doty totaled two goals and two assists. Carita added two goals and one assist, and Villari scored twice. Heffernan contributed a goal and an assist, while Sheehan, Petrullo, Nawrocki, and Wade also found the back of the net.

Camryn Smith made seven saves in goal and helped Pace control possession throughout the afternoon. Sasha Kulo also played a major role in the win, recording 11 draw controls as the Setters finished with a 17-4 advantage in the category.

The Setters return to action on Wednesday when they travel to face Molloy University at 6:00 p.m.
