PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Saturday afternoon, Pace University Men's Lacrosse turned in a dominant second-half performance at Northwell Stadium, defeating RV Wilmington University of Delaware, 10–4, in a non-conference match-up. After the Wildcats grabbed an early two-goal advantage in the opening quarter, the Setters responded with a strong defensive effort and a decisive offensive surge over the final three periods. With the win, the Blue and Gold improve to 3–1 overall as conference play still sits around the corner.
Wilmington struck first midway through the opening quarter with a man-up goal before adding another score moments later to take an early 2–0 lead. Pace quickly answered as
Declan Landers got the Setters on the board at the 4:49 mark, finishing a pass from
Matt Baldino to cut the deficit in half. Just over two minutes later, Landers struck again, this time converting a feed from
Will Danowski to even the score at 2–2 by the end of the first quarter.
The Setters grabbed their first lead early in the second quarter. Following a Wilmington penalty, Landers completed his hat trick on the extra-man opportunity with Baldino recording his second assist of the game to give Pace a 3–2 advantage. The Blue and Gold defense held the Wildcats scoreless for the remainder of the half as the Setters carried the one-goal lead into the break.
Pace seized full control in the third quarter with an explosive offensive stretch.
Will Danowski opened the scoring with a man-up goal assisted by
Colin Reese to extend the lead to 4–2. Wilmington briefly cut the margin to 4–3, but the Setters responded with four consecutive goals. Danowski scored again off a feed from Landers before Landers added his fourth goal of the afternoon from
Lee Poulin. Baldino then joined the scoring with a goal assisted by
Jake Cenci, and
Zach Goetze capped the surge with a man-up tally from Baldino to give Pace an 8–3 lead heading into the final quarter.
The Blue and Gold continued their momentum early in the fourth quarter when Danowski recorded his third goal of the game to extend the lead to 9–3. Later in the period, Goetze added his second goal of the afternoon on another extra-man opportunity, once again assisted by Baldino, stretching the Pace advantage to 10–3. Wilmington added a late goal in the closing seconds, but the Setters remained firmly in control to secure the win.
Landers paced the Pace offense with four goals and one assist, while Danowski finished with three goals and one assist. Baldino played a key role in the attack, tallying one goal and four assists, and Goetze added two goals in the victory. In goal,
Jack Kern made 10 saves, while the Setters controlled possession with 50 ground balls and won 12 faceoffs on the afternoon.
Pace returns to action on Tuesday, March 10, when the Setters host St. Thomas Aquinas College at Northwell Stadium. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
