PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday, No. 12 Pace University Women's Lacrosse dropped a Northeast 10 contest against No.16 Adelphi University, falling 18–8. The Blue and Gold stayed within striking distance through the first half before Adelphi pulled away late, moving Pace to 4–4 overall and 2–1 in the Northeast 10 Conference.
Pace opened the scoring early as
Mackenzie Carita found the back of the net off an assist from
Annie Sheehan to make it 1–0. After Adelphi answered,
Marissa Doty converted on a man-up opportunity to give the Setters a 2–1 lead midway through the first quarter.
Adelphi responded with a strong closing stretch, scoring four straight goals to take a 5–2 lead after one. The Panthers continued to build their advantage in the second quarter, extending the margin to 10–4 before Pace closed the half with goals from
Abigail O'Connor and Doty to cut the deficit to 10–6 at halftime.
Out of the break, the Blue and Gold continued to battle. Doty added another goal in the third quarter to make it 11–7, but Adelphi answered late in the frame to take a 12–7 lead into the fourth.
In the final quarter, Carita scored to cut the deficit to 13–8, but Adelphi pulled away with five unanswered goals to close out the 18–8 decision.
Doty led the offense with five goals, while Carita added two goals and an assist. O'Connor also scored, and Sheehan recorded two assists as Pace totaled 27 shots in the contest. Defensively, the Blue and Gold recorded 18 ground balls and won 17 draw controls in the effort.
Women's Lacrosse returns home on Saturday to host American International College for Alumni Day, with opening draw scheduled for 12:00 p.m..
