ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Behind a career-best performance by
Sydney Sims and one of their most dominant statistical efforts of the season, Pace University Field Hockey secured a 2-0 win at Molloy University on Tuesday. The victory boosts the Setters to 3-6 overall and 3-2 in Northeast 10 Conference play, marking the program's third shutout of the fall.
From the opening whistle, the Setters controlled play and created scoring chances at will, taking 17 shots in the first quarter alone. Despite their relentless pressure, Pace was stopped several times by the Molloy goalkeeper's saves.
The breakthrough came midway through the second quarter when Sims broke free in the 19th minute, finishing off one of the Setters' 10 penalty corners in the period to give the visitors a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Setters maintained their intensity in the second half, preventing Molloy from getting a single attempt on goal while continuing their attack. Sims scored again in the 54th minute, doubling the Pace lead with her second goal of the game to secure the win.
Sims' first career multi-goal game highlighted a relentless effort by the Blue and Gold, who outshot the Lions 45-0 and earned 20 penalty corners.
Goalkeeper
Morgan Strecker anchored the defense, playing all 60 minutes to record the shutout without facing a shot.
With the win, the Setters improve their conference record above .500 and gain momentum heading into October. The Setters will now return home to host Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
