Kearney’s Two Goals Lift Field Hockey Past AIC

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind a standout performance from forward Kyleigh Kearney, who recorded her first career multi-goal game, the Pace University Field Hockey defeated American International College, 2-0. With the victory on Saturday afternoon, the Setters improve to 2-6 overall and 2–2 in Northeast-10 Conference play.

Pace came out with intensity from the opening whistle, owning possession and firing early shots. In the 12th minute, the breakthrough arrived as Cadey Mienie found Kearney in stride, and she finished with authority to put Pace ahead 1-0.

The Setters maintained control through the rest of the first half, limiting the Yellow Jackets' chances and keeping momentum in their favor. No further goals were scored before the intermission.

Midway through the third quarter, Pace doubled the lead. After building the attack through midfield, Anne Kopec delivered a pass into the circle, where Kearney struck it home for a 2–0 lead. That goal marked the first time in her college career that Kearney has netted multiple in a single contest.

In the final quarter, Pace's defensive unit refused to yield. The Setters stifled AIC's offense — allowing just one shot on goal all afternoon — and secured the shutout. Between the posts, Morgan Strecker made one key save and preserved the clean sheet.

Pace outshot AIC by a dominant 23-1 margin, including a 16-1 edge in shots on target.

Kearney now leads the team with four goals on the season, and she registered her first multi-goal contest. Mienie and Kopec each tallied one assist while Strecker made one save and earned the shutout.

Pace returns to the road on Tuesday, September 30, facing Molloy University in an NE10 contest at 3:00 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
