MANCHESTER, N.H. – Pace University Women's Soccer dropped a tightly contested Northeast 10 Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-1 to Saint Anselm College. With the result, the Setters move to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The Blue and Gold weathered a heavy attacking push from the Hawks in the opening 45 minutes. Goalkeeper
Anna Fiore was outstanding, turning away seven first-half shots to keep the Setters within striking distance. Despite her efforts, Saint Anselm found the breakthrough in the 40th minute to carry a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Pace responded with more purpose after the break, generating several chances in the attacking third. Efforts from
Meredith Klosek and
Allison Carr challenged the Hawks' goalkeeper, while
Bailey Olson also produced a shot on target.
Although Saint Anselm extended its advantage in the 57th minute, the Setters answered quickly. Just seven minutes later, graduate forward
Ava Viebrock slotted home her third goal of the season to trim the deficit to 2-1 in the 65th minute.
The Setters carried momentum into the closing stages and continued to press for an equalizer. Substitutes
Juliana Procopio and
Megan Murphy added late shots, and Fiore capped her strong afternoon with three more saves to finish with 10 overall. Despite the push, Pace was unable to level the match as the Hawks held on for the narrow victory.
Pace returns home to Northwell Stadium on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. for an out-of-conference meeting against Queens College.
