BLOOMSBURG, PA. – On Wednesday afternoon, Pace University Field Hockey came up short in a 3-0 road defeat to No. 6 Bloomsburg University at Steph Pettit Stadium. The Setters' efforts were not enough to take down their nationally ranked opponent as they drop to 0-3 in the early portion of the campaign.
Pace opened the night defending well through the opening minutes, with goalkeeper
Morgan Strecker making an early save in the cage. However, Bloomsburg broke through in the ninth minute to grab the early advantage. Pace responded with steady defensive play and began to push forward midway through the second quarter.
Midfielder
Kyleigh Kearney generated the first scoring chances for the Blue and Gold, firing two shots on goal that were turned away. Just minutes later,
Olivia Martinez narrowly missed the frame after another Pace corner. Despite the offensive push, Bloomsburg doubled its lead in the 21st minute, sending the Setters into halftime trailing 2-0.
Pace carried momentum into the third quarter, highlighted by a key defensive save from senior
Molly Paterson to deny a dangerous Huskies chance at the 32-minute mark. The Setters also pressured on the attacking end, as
Anne Kopec registered a blocked attempt following back-to-back corners. Moments later,
Romy Manditsera and
Sydney Sims each put shots on target, but both were stopped by the Bloomsburg keeper.
The Blue and Gold's push continued into the fourth quarter with another strong look from Kopec, only to be saved once again. Bloomsburg eventually added a third tally in the 55th minute to close the scoring as the final score favored the home squad, 3-0.
The Setters will return home this weekend for a Sunday morning (11:00 a.m.) meeting with Maryville University at Peter X. Finnerty Field.
