PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Despite outshooting Maryville University 22-18, Pace University Field Hockey dropped a 3-1 contest on Sunday afternoon at Peter X. Finnerty Field. The Setters now stand at 0-4 on the season with Northeast 10 Conference play just around the corner.
Pace came out firing in the opening quarter, producing multiple penalty corners and shots from
Sydney Sims,
Molly Paterson,
Enya Manzanera, and
Kyleigh Kearney. However, it was Maryville who struck first in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
The Blue and Gold pulled even early in the third quarter when
Anne Kopec buried a penalty stroke in the 35th minute for her third goal of the year. The visitors answered just minutes later to reclaim the advantage before adding a late penalty stroke in the final two minutes.
The Setters generated plenty of chances down the stretch, highlighted by Kearney's defensive save and a shot that rattled off the post in the 59th minute. The opposing goalkeeper finished with 17 saves, turning away repeated opportunities from the Blue and Gold throughout the contest.
Goalkeeper
Caitlyn Zabko made seven saves, while Kearney led the attack with six shots, and
Feline Rook added five.
Pace will continue its homestand on Wednesday, when it hosts Mercy University for a 4:00 p.m. match-up at Finnerty Field.
