#4 Setters Drop in Overtime to #5 Molloy University in NCAA First Round

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Pace Men's Lacrosse was ranked the four seed in the NCAA DII Men's Lacrosse North Regional Tournament and opened up the event with #5 Molloy University at Northwell Stadium late Wednesday afternoon.

The Setters forced extra minutes with a incredible effort by Ryan Mimnaugh and Declan Landers with the tie at 14. As the sudden death overtime commenced, the Lions maintained possession to cage the game winner for the 15-14 victory over the Blue and Gold.

Here's What Happened:
  • Molloy ignited the afternoon with two swift goals for the swift 2-0 lead over the hosts. Preston Kral and Jake Cenci neutralized the score with consecutive goals of their own then Kral tallied his second of the first quarter for the go-ahead 3-2 advantage. By the end of the first, the frame featured two more lead changes with the Setters holding a 5-4 lead entering the second.
  • The Setters largest lead of the day occurred in the initial minutes of the second quarter when Timmy Morrow, Will Danowski, and Declan Landers found the back of the net to sit in front 8-4. However, Molloy went on a four goal run to end the first half to snag the 9-8 advantage.
  • Pace was held to two goals throughout the third while Molloy went on to cage four. The Blue and Gold recorded points from Danowski and Colin Reese as both teams entered the final frame with a 12-10 score favoring the Lions.
  • The final stanza featured a flipped performance with Pace tallying four goals, one of them being the game tying goal by Landers, to force the game into extra minutes. With just under a minute remaining in regulation, the Setters were trailing by 2, 14-12. Daniel Zabbia found the back of the net to sit within one and soon after, Molloy controlled the ball hoping for the buzzer to sound for the regulation victory.
  • Mimnaugh forced a critical Lion turnover and launched the ball to the opposite end of the field and found the stick of Landers for the buzzer beating tie at 14 to force the extra frame. As the contest went into sudden death scoring, Molloy found the back of the net first and ran away with the 15-14 victory to cut the Setters postseason run short.
