First-Seeded Setters Advance to Semifinals In Shutout Fashion

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Thursday morning at the Pace Softball Field, the first-seeded Pace Softball team faced the fourth-seeded Falcons of Bentley University for a quarterfinal match-up in the Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference Championships.

Gisselle Garcia tossed her fifth no-hitter of the 2025 campaign in the contest, leading the Setters to a 6-0 victory and a trip to the semifinals. With the win, Pace moves to 39-10 overall and 22-1 within the conference as they return to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for the next round of the conference championship.

Here's What Happened
  • After neither side posted a run in the first, the Setters broke into the scoring department with a single up the middle from Brianna Shea. With two innings in the books, Pace held a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.
  • On the other side of the field, Bentley has no answer for Garcia as she recorded eight strikeouts in the opening three innings. The senior pitcher cruised through the lineup, keeping momentum on Pace's side moving into the bottom of the third.
  • In the inning, the Setters increased their lead to 3-0 behind a two-RBI double off the bat of Shea. Bentley failed to respond in the next inning as the 3-0 score was pushed into the fourth inning.
  • Two more runs came for Pace in the bottom of the fourth with RBIs from Alexa Borino and Willa Poplawski, making it 5-0 in favor of the home team. With a convincing lead, Garcia continued to have her way in the circle as she went into the seventh inning with her no-hitter still intact.
  • In the top half of the inning, Garcia struck out the first two batters she faced before forcing Bentley into a pop-up to wrap up the game and her no-hit performance. The 6-0 victory solidified Pace as a semi-finalist in the conference playoffs.
Box Score Insights
  • Garcia fanned 15 batters throughout her seven-inning no-hitter, with the only runner to reach base coming on a dropped third strike. The senior produced her 22nd win of the season as she lowered her season earned run average to a remarkable 0.66.
  • Carrying the load on offense, Shea totaled three RBIs and two hits.
  • Kaylee Matsuda posted a team-high three hits with two runs scored.
  • The duo of Raelle Gorman and Poplawski both tallied two hits and a run scored.
