Garcia Breaks NE10 Record as Setters Advance to Championship Round

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - #1 Seed, and nationally ranked, Pace Softball entered the semifinal round of the Northeast-10 (NE10) Tournament Friday afternoon versus #7 seed, Adelphi University.

Gisselle Garcia added another win under her belt to assist in the 2-0 advancement to the championship round of the postseason tournament, but she also became the all-time leader in strikeouts when she featured eight to sit with 997 career strikeouts; three shy of becoming the first ever NE10 pitcher to record 1,000 strikeouts.

Here's What Happened:
  • The Setters presented a strong first inning where the two runs of the game occurred. Alexa Borino got the Blue and Gold on the base paths and eventually found her way in scoring position to be brought in by a Willa Poplawski double, 1-0.
  • Raelle Gorman recorded a hit for a third consecutive game in the postseason, and on Friday, her first at bat was an RBI single to bring around Poplawski for the 2-0 advantage.
  • Adelphi was only able to reach second base in the top half of the fourth but could not round the horn to chip away at the deficit.
  • By the last two innings, Garcia ended an inning with a strikeout to tie the NE10 career strikeout record with 996, then eventually became the all-time leader to end the day with a strikeout and the 2-0 victory.
Box Score Insights:
  • The NE10 record that Garcia now claims was set by a Panther who graduated in 2024. Garcia pitched another complete game with eight strikeouts, two walks, and only four hits.
  • Poplawski and Gorman went 2-3 with an RBI, and Borino went 1-3 with one run.
  • The Setters will be making their fourth appearance in the NE10 Championship event and search for their second title in program history.
