PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday afternoon, No. 25 Pace Softball tallied 12 total runs to sweep Caldwell University at home, winning game one, 4-0, and then game two, 8-3. The Setters remain undefeated at home, increasing their win streak to an outstanding 18 games in a row.
The out-of-conference twin-bill sweep improves the Blue and Gold's record to 24-8 overall, as they remain 8-0 within the Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference.
Game One
- In the opening game of the doubleheader, the first three innings decided the contest as the Setters wasted no time jumping ahead of their opponents. Riley Jenkins kicked off the offense with an RBI single in the first, and Pace never looked back.
- In the second, the Setters snagged a 2-0 lead behind Katerina Luna's single to right field, and with Gisselle Garcia in the circle, Caldwell failed to find success at the plate.
- The final two runs of the game crossed the plate in the third after Raelle Gorman found a hole in the defense for a two-RBI triple. Both offenses remained scoreless throughout the final four innings as Pace secured their 17th straight victory, 4-0.
Game Two
- In game two, both sides lit up the scoreboard early on as seven combined runs scored in the first two innings. RBIs from Brianna Shea, Willa Poplawski, Madison Picerno, and Jenkins helped the Blue and Gold gather a 5-2 lead after the second.
- The next run went to the Cougars, and with the offenses calming down after their quick start, a 5-3 score moved into the bottom of the fifth.
- In the inning, the Setters took advantage of an error from Caldwell to bring home three runs in the inning. Picerno stayed hot at the dish, driving home two runs off a double to center field. The three run inning push the Setters ahead 8-3 which was enough to fend off the Cougars on their home field solidifying their 18th straight win.
Box Score Insights
- Picerno had an excellent day at the plate (3-for-3), driving in a team-best three RBIs.
- Sophie Valle tallied a multi-hit effort with one RBI, while Jenkins notched two hits and two RBIs in the doubleheader.
- Garcia recorded her 12th victory of the season, going seven innings with eight strikeouts and only two hits allowed in game one.
- In game two, Pricilla Del Toro (2.1 IP, 1 ER) earned the win, while Alyssa Smart (4.2 IP, 4K's, 0 ER) sealed up the game to post her first save of the 2025 season.
- Early runs continue to cross the plate for the Setters as they have produced ten first-inning runs over their last five contests.
