Game Recap: Softball |

No. 25 Softball Sails Past Bentley to Extend Win Streak to 20 Games

WALTHAM, MA. – No. 25 Pace softball continued their dominant stretch in the season, sweeping Bentley University in both games of their doubleheader, winning 1-0 and then 2-0. The Setters blanked the Falcons in both contests en route to their 20th consecutive victory on the diamond as they improve to 26-8 overall and 10-0 in the Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference.

Game One
  • In the opening game of the double bill, both sides remained scoreless through the fifth inning as Gisselle Garcia shut down the Falcon's hitting. The low-scoring affair was decided by one run, which eventually came in the top half of the sixth for the Blue and Gold.
  • Kickstarted by a Katerina Luna walk, the Setters brought home the game-winning run off a Riley Jenkins single to left field. With one run on the scoreboard, Garcia closed out the game with a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh, giving Pace their 19th straight win by a final score of 1-0.
Game Two
  • Runs came much earlier in game two as Pace jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first led by an Alexa Borino run on a wild pitch. After the first run inning, neither side saw a run scored until the seventh when the Setters struck once again.
  • Behind a Brianna Shea single up the middle of the infield, Pace held a 2-0 advantage over Bentley heading into the bottom of the sixth.
  • In need of two shutdown innings, Garcia jumped back into the circle to put the finishing touches on the Setter's 20th straight win as they won 2-0 on the road.
  • With their 20th victory in a row, the Blue and Gold continue to raise the bar for the entire softball program, leaving the previous consecutive winning record of 11 games further behind each game.
Box Score Insights
  • Garcia had another sensational day in the circle, totaling 9.1 innings, one win, one save, no earned runs, and 15 strikeouts. Also in the circle, Alyssa Smart posted two strikeouts and no runs allowed throughout 4.2 innings of work.
  • At the plate, the trio of Shea (3-for-6, 1 RBI), Jenkins (2-for-6, 1 RBI), and Garcia (2-for-5) led the Setters in their sweep.
  • As a team, Pace tallied ten hits compared to Bentley's six.
