Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts #7 Women's Lacrosse Over SCSU

WEST HAVEN, CT - #7 Pace Women's Lacrosse traveled to the final road match of their regular season schedule when they matched up with Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) in West Haven, CT late Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue and Gold presented a commanding first quarter after holding the Owls to nil while finding the back of the net four times. By halftime, the Owls cut the Setters led to three, but was ultimately upended in the final stanza with one goal for the Setters' 13-8 victory.

Here's What Happened:
  • To open the contest, the Setters featured goals from Mackenzie Carita, Maddie Schubert, and back-to-back points by Gigi Genovese. Annie Sheehan extended the Blue and Gold's advantage in the second to 5-0 on another goal, but the Owls recorded their first of the day that ignited the shift in momentum to close out the first half, 7-4. 
  • The host outscored the Setters 3-2 in the third frame, where they trailed by one, 8-7, with just under four minutes remaining in the quarter. Nikki Mottes put the squad back up by two, 9-7, to enter the final stanza with a two point advantage.
  • With four more goals in the fourth and only one for the hosts, the Setters secured another Northeast-10 (NE10) victory, 13-8, to improve to 10-2 overall and 6-0 in the conference. The fourth for Pace was led by Carita and Mottes with two goals apiece.
Box Score Insights:
  • Carita led all scorers with four goals in the contest while Mottes has an all-around stellar performance with eight points on three goals and five assists.
  • Sheehan had three goals with three ground balls while Genovese had three points on two goals and an assist.
  • Sasha Kulo had six draw controls. Sarah Scheidel and Colleen Gilligan had two caused turnovers each.
  • Samantha Tanguay saved five Owl attempts in the day.
