Baseball Outmatched in Twin Bill Versus No. 15 West Chester

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Friday afternoon, Pace baseball welcomed No. 15 West Chester University of Pennsylvania to Peter X. Finnerty Field. During the doubleheader, Pace failed to keep up with their opponents, dropping both games on the day.

The Setters move to 3-5 overall in the season, with conference play still awaiting its 2025 opener.

Here's What Happened
  • In game one, the Setters faced a difficult task on the mound as they faced the reigning NCBWA Division II Pitcher of the Week. Led by their incredible pitching performance, the Golden Rams handled business in the opening game, 7-1.
  • The contest was highlighted by the lone run from the Blue and Gold, a Brayden Sweppenhiser home run to left field.
  • In game two, West Chester wasted no time putting six runs on the scoreboard before the third inning was over. The Setter managed to trim the deficit to three runs, 6-3, in the next inning; however, the Golden Rams poured on 11 runs in the next two innings, putting the game out of reach.
  • The Setters would tack on four more runs before the game's end, but it was not enough as West Chester cruised to an 18-7 victory, sweeping the doubleheader.
Box Score Insights
  • Sweppenhiser recorded three hits on the day, including a long ball to left field.
  • Luke Rivara, Andrew Heppner, and Mason Baronian all had multi-hit efforts in the doubleheader.
  • Offensively, the Blue and Gold posted 17 total hits in both games compared to West Chester's 29.
Up Next (Mercy University)
The Setters look to return to the win column on Sunday afternoon as they battle Mercy University in a doubleheader match-up at home beginning at noon.
