Stellar Outings from Garcia and Smart Lead Setters to Sweep Against Queens

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind two impressive days in the circle from Gisselle Garcia and Alyssa Smart, RV Pace softball earned the doubleheader sweep over Queens College. Two complete-game shutouts from the Setters' pitching helped them secure an 11-0 win in game one and a 5-0 victory in game two.

The sweep helps the Setters improve to 12-8 overall, with the Northeast-10 conference opener set for Saturday afternoon.

Game One (5 innings)
  • In game one, Pace's offense was sparked by a Brianna Shea single up the middle in the second inning. In the next inning, three runs crossed the plate as the Blue and Gold continued to pour on runs against the Knights.
  • Garcia dominated in the circle for a perfect game, as she did not allow a runner to reach base in the opening four innings. In the bottom of the fourth, six runs lit up the scoreboard for Pace as an 11-0 rout ensued at the Pace Softball Field.
  • Garcia remained perfect in the final inning of the mercy win to solidify her second no-hit performance of the 2024-25 season. The senior fanned nine batters in her sixth win of the season while allowing no base runners.
Game Two
  • In the second game of the afternoon, Smart earned the start for the Setters and cruised through Queens' lineup, posting three strikeouts in the first three innings.
  • After three scoreless innings from Smart, Pace's bats showed signs of life in the bottom half of the third. A sacrifice fly from Alexa Borino and then a Faith Scally single made it 2-0 with Pace ahead.
  • While Pace's pitching continued to retire Queens, Pace's bats produced three more runs coming in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Smart ended her day with seven total innings, four strikeouts, and no earned runs while earning her third victory of the year.

  • Lauren D'Orazio notched her first collegiate RBI in the winning effort, going 2-for-3 on the day.
  • Willa Poplawski (3-for-5) and Shea (2-for-2, 2 walks) led the team with 3 RBIs in the afternoon.
