RV Softball Dominates in Doubleheader Sweep Against STAC

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – On Wednesday afternoon, RV Pace softball cruised on their way to a doubleheader sweep over Saint Thomas Aquinas College (STAC). The Spartans were no match for the Setters offense as Pace earned a 6-2 win in game one, and a 8-1 victory in game two.

The twin-bill sweep helps improve their record to 10-8 overall, with Northeast-10 action kicking off this weekend.

Game One
  • In the opening contest, the Setters built a substantial lead behind a five-run effort in the fourth inning. Two-RBI base-knocks from Katerina Luna and Willa Poplawski lead the charge as the Setters held a commanding 6-0 lead after four innings.
  • Giselle Garcia kept the opponents bats quiet throughout the game as the Spartans brought home only two runs in the final inning.
  • Despite the late push from STAC, Pace earned a healthy four-run victory, 6-2, in game one led by a three-RBI performance from Poplawski.
Game Two
  • In the second game of the twin-bill it was more of the same from the Setters as the leaped out to an early 5-1 lead after two-innings.
  • Following scoreless third and fourth innings, the Setters delivered two more runs off of a Aubrey Carroll double in the left field gap. By the fifth innings end, Pace had control of the contest with an impressive 7-1 advantage.
  • The two-run inning in the fifth put the game out of the opponents reach as the Blue and Gold managed to secure an 8-1 victory at home.
Box Score Insights
  • Poplawski scorched the ball in both match-ups totaling three hits and a team-high five RBIs in the sweep.
  • Jenkins posted a five-hit day (3 RBIs) to lead the squad as she notched three hits in game one and two hits in game two.
  • Several Setters had efficient days at the dish with a total of 20 hits in the afternoon.
  • The Northeast-10 Pitcher of the Week, Garcia, shined one again in the circle tossing a complete game (7.0 IP, 1W) with seven strikeouts in the first game of the twin-bill.
  • In game two, Alyssa Smart earned her second win of the year going four innings with four strikeouts.

The Blue and Gold are back in action tomorrow afternoon for a doubleheader meeting with Queens College. The opening pitch of game one is set for 2:30 p.m. from the Pace Softball Field in Pleasantville, N.Y.
