Strong Pitching Leads Setters to Shutout Victory over Queens

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Behind an impressive day from the Pace baseball pitching staff, the Setters secured a 3-0 win at home over Queens College. With only four hits surrendered to the opposition, the Blue and Gold only need three runs to fend off the Knights on their home turf.

The victory improves their record to 11-10 overall, with an important three-game series coming up this weekend.

Here's What Happened
  • Two zeros remained after one inning of play before the Setters opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second. Andrew Heppner's sacrifice fly to right field put the first run on the board for the Blue and Gold as they held a 1-0 lead after two.
  • In the next three innings, neither side tallied a run as Cristian Rodriguez cruised against the Queens lineup. The Setters offense returned to the scoring department in the sixth, led by a single off the bat off Dominic Rivara.
  • In the next inning, Pace extended their lead to 3-0 behind Robbie Caffery's first collegiate home run that found its way over the left field fence. Heading into the top of the eighth, the Setters had a 3-0 advantage over the Knights as Brian Espinal took the mound.
  • In the final two innings, Espinal closed the door on Queen's, earning his first save of the 2025 season in a 3-0 Pace victory.
Box Score Insights
  • Matthew Franco led the team with two hits on the day while scoring one run.
  • Rivara (1-for-4, 1 RBI), Heppner (1-for-3, 1 RBI), and Caffery (1-for-1, 1 RBI, 2 walks) all registered an RBI in the afternoon.
  • The tandem of Cristian Rodriguez (5.0 IP, 3K's, 1W), Tyler Rodriguez (1.0 IP, 0 ER), Aidan Kempf (1.0 IP, 2K's), and Espinal (2.0 IP, 1K, 1 SV) kept Queen's bats in check throughout the nine-inning affair.
