#8 Setters Back in Winners Circle After #10 Adelphi Defeat

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - #8 Pace Women's Lacrosse hosted #10 Adelphi University at Northwell Stadium Wednesday evening for a Northeast-10 (NE10) contest.

After a 5-2 opening first quarter, the Setters edged the Panthers and ultimately led by at most five goals throughout the night for the 16-12 victory.

Here's What Happened:
  • Both squads were able to cage a goal within the first five minutes of regulation. Annie Sheehan found the back of th net soon after the Panthers equalizer goal and from there the Setters pulled away from their opponents to end the first quarter in front 5-2.
  • Adelphi outscored the Blue and Gold in the second, 4-3, to trail the hosts by two at the half way point. The Setters featured goals from Sheehan and Lisa Heffernan to assist in the offensive edge for the squad, 8-6.
  • Nikki Mottes ignited the second half of play and set the momentum for the squad to tally two back-to-back goals by Mackenzie Carita, 11-6. Adelphi responded and caged three of their own and trailed by two once again, but Carita had herself a night in the third stanza with another goal to end the third, 12-9.
  • The Panthers would only get two goals away from the tying the Setters' lead, but they were not able to overcome the trench and allowed the Setters to re-enter the winners circle, 16-12.
