Sheehan Cages Go-Ahead Goal in the #2 Setter Win Versus #11 Rangers

PLEASANTVILLE, NY - #2 Pace Women's Lacrosse capped off their doubleheader weekend with a brisk non-conference contest with #11 Regis University (Co.) at Northwell Stadium Sunday evening.

In a well matched up event, the Setters and Rangers were tied 10-10 with under a minute left to play. Annie Sheehan shoved her way towards the center of the goal and found the back of the net for the go-ahead goal and game winner for the Setters 11-10 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season.

Here's What Happened:
  • The first quarter featured five goals (5-2) from the Setters when Marissa Doty ignited the night with an opening goal followed by Nikki Mottes, Mackenzie Carita (2), and Maddie Schubert.
  • Regis burnt out the Setter flame when they held them to just one goal in the second and they went on to record four to enter halftime with a clean slate at six.
  • Just like how the Setters opened up the first quarter, the Rangers did the third with two back-to-back goals. Sheehan caged her second of the night on a man-up opportunity, 8-7, and Katie Long tied the score once again, 8-8, with one quarter remaining.
  • Doty gave the first go-ahead goal of the frame, 9-8, but it would soon be flipped in favor of Regis with another pair of consecutive goals, 10-9, off of free positions.
  • The final tie of the night came from Carita with just under nine-minutes left. Samantha Tanguay made two clutch saves to keep the score even at 10. After a Pace timeout, the Setters controlled the ball and found its way in the hands of Sheehan who beamed to the middle of the cage and fired a shot for the 11-10 victory over the Rangers.
Box Score Insights:
  • Carita and Sheehan led the charge with three goals apiece while Sheehan was tied for first in draw controls with four and had two caused turnovers.
  • Doty ended the day with two goals and three draw controls.
  • Alexandra Witucki and Sarah Scheidel locked in on defense with three caused turnovers each.
  • Tanguay is 4-0 inside the cage and managed to snag six saves along with three ground balls.
