TAMPA, FL - #8 Pace University Women's Lacrosse wrapped up their Florida schedule with a Wednesday afternoon game with #1 University of Tampa.
Senior,
Gigi Genovese, posted a career-high performance in the day when she led the charge with two goals. At the end of regulation, the Setters dropped 17-8 and will return back to Pleasantville with a 5-2 overall record.
Here's What Happened:
- The Spartans grappled the upper hand with consecutive goals for the swift 2-0 lead over the Setters, but after Allison Petrullo caged the first for the squad, the Blue and Gold sat within one, 2-1. By the end of the first, Pace found themselves trailing by two, 4-2, after a Spartan goal in the final seconds of the frame.
- With another opening stanza of the hosts recording back-to-back goals, 6-2, the Setters needed to find their rhythm to maintain their footing in the day. Annie Sheehan and Nikki Mottes found the back of the net and by halftime, the Blue and Gold sats in a 7-4 deficit.
- Both teams in the third posted their best scoring performances with the Setters caging four and the Spartans six. During this time, Sheehan and Genovese, posted a collective three goals, two of them coming in succeeding fashion for Genovese, and the Setters clawed their way back for a 9-7 Spartan lead.
- With the final stanza about to commence, Tampa held the 13-8 advantage and ultimately held the Blue and Gold scoreless for the remainder of the day to hand the Setters the 17-8 defeat.
