SAN MARCOS, CA. – On Wednesday afternoon, RV Pace softball concluded their trip to the Golden State with a doubleheader versus No. 15 California State University of San Marcos (CSUSM). In the double feature match-up, the Blue and Gold dropped both games falling in game one, 7-2, and losing game two, 3-2.
Following Wednesday's action, the Setters move to 6-8 overall with Northeast-10 Conference games just around the corner.
Game One
- In the opening game the Setters chalked up the first runs of the day in the third off RBI singles from Brianna Shea and Riley Jenkins. Despite the early charge, the Cougars countered back with a three-run inning to take a 3-2 lead.
- In the next inning, Pace threatened the home squad with a bases-loaded situation. However, CSUSM managed to crawl its way out of the difficult spot behind a double-play that caught the tying run at the plate.
- In the remaining innings, the Cougars tacked on four more runs to put the finishing touches on the game leading to a 7-2 loss for the Setters.
Game Two
- The second game of the day provided a tight-knit contest for both sides as a tie score, 2-2, moved into the final inning. With three hits and two errors for both teams, game two remained neck-and-neck until the final pitch of the afternoon.
- In the bottom of the seventh a long fly ball off the bat of the Cougars would seem to wrap up the game however, Jade Alvarado had other plans. Against all odds, the senior outfielder made an unbelievable catch at the wall to prevent the game-winning home run. The stellar grab kept the Setter's chances alive as the game moved to extras tied at two.
- The hard-fought game eventually ended during the bottom of the ninth in favor of CSUSM. An RBI single up the middle helped the Cougars produce the go-ahead run to walk off the Setters by a final score of 3-2.

- Raelle Gorman led Pace with three hits in the doubleheader while Giselle Garcia (2-for-7, 1 run) and Riley Jenkins (2-for-6) both supplied multi-hit days.
- In the circle, Pricilla Del Toro (2.1 IP, 0 ER) and Alyssa Smart (6.1 IP, 3K's, 1 ER) kept the Blue and Gold within striking distance in game two.
- Throughout both games, CSUSM took advantage of their opportunities leaving ten runners on base compared to Pace's 17.
